While Your Singapore PR Application Is Pending

A pending PR or citizenship application does not freeze your circumstances. Marriage, a birth, a new passport, a job change, a salary update or a correction may need to be reported through the case summary. ICA's current e-Service provides specific functions for adding eligible dependants and updating information. This guide explains what is published, what remains case specific, and why a long processing period or request for documents should not be read as an approval or rejection signal.

Government requirements are linked in the official sources below. Preparation suggestions are advisory guidance; individual decisions remain with the relevant authority.

Use the case-summary functions

For current applications, MyICA or the ICA e-Service is the primary record. Depending on the change, the case summary may show Add Applicant(s), Update information, Update Marital Status, Withdraw Applicants or a clarification request. Non-Singpass applicants use their reference ID and the credentials specified by ICA.

Report material changes with evidence

Update a new passport, employment, salary, qualification, address, marriage or birth using the function that matches the change. Upload the new official record rather than a narrative alone. If the relevant field or document type is unavailable, ICA directs applicants to use its enquiry form and attach the latest evidence.

Keep immigration status separate from the application

A pending PR or citizenship application is not a pass and does not provide a right to remain in or enter Singapore. Maintain the work, dependant, visit or re-entry status that applies independently. PRs travelling during a citizenship application must ensure their REP covers the overseas period.

Do not infer an outcome from the wait

ICA's published general processing times are about six months for PR and up to 12 months for citizenship when documents are in order, but complex cases can take longer. Pending, processing and a long delay do not disclose ranking, approval probability or the reason for review.

Respond to clarification requests precisely

ICA may request additional information or documents through the e-Service. A request is neither a favourable nor an adverse signal; it means the officer needs material to assess the case. Respond within the stated period, keep the submission acknowledgement and avoid uploading unrelated documents without a suitable channel.

Withdrawal ends the current case

A pending application can be withdrawn through the e-Service's Withdraw Applicants function. Treat that as a substantive decision: fees are non-refundable and a withdrawn case is not a pause button. If circumstances later support an application, check prevailing eligibility and start the appropriate new application rather than assuming the old case can be restored.

Common questions

Can I add a spouse or a newborn child to my PR application after submitting it, and should I report a marriage or birth?

Yes, eligible dependants can be added after submission. Singpass users should open the case summary in MyICA and select Add Applicant(s); non-Singpass users use the application reference ID and the same function. Report the marriage or birth promptly and upload the civil-status documents requested. Adding a person is still subject to that person's eligibility, passport validity, declarations and any additional fee or document requirements shown by ICA.

Can I travel overseas while my PR or citizenship application is pending?

Yes, a citizenship applicant may travel on the existing foreign passport while the application is processed. If you are already a PR, ICA requires a valid Re-Entry Permit covering the time overseas. A pending PR application itself does not grant entry or valid stay, so a non-PR applicant must continue to meet the conditions of the passport, visa or pass used for travel and return.

What happens to a pending PR application if I lose my job, my work pass is cancelled or expires, or I go onto a short-term visit pass?

ICA does not publish an automatic outcome for every job-loss or pass-expiry scenario. Update the employment and pass change immediately through the case summary or enquiry form, with the relevant termination, new-pass or job-search documents. The pending application does not create valid stay, and the EP/S Pass eligibility route may no longer describe your current position. Ask ICA whether it will continue assessing the case; do not assume cancellation or approval.

Should I contact ICA to chase a pending PR or citizenship application?

Use MyICA or the e-Service to check status rather than sending routine chase messages. ICA publishes general processing times of about six months for PR and up to 12 months for citizenship, with some cases taking longer. A status enquiry is appropriate when the published period has materially passed, the portal is inaccessible, a deadline is approaching, or you have a specific change or missing clarification to report.

Can I withdraw a PR or citizenship application, and can it be reinstated?

A pending PR or citizenship application can be withdrawn through ICA's e-Service by selecting Withdraw Applicants. Application fees are non-refundable. ICA does not present withdrawal as a suspension or a way to hold a place, so plan on the current case ending. If you later wish to apply, check the prevailing criteria and submit a fresh application; do not rely on reinstatement unless ICA gives written case-specific directions.

How do I update a pending citizenship application, e.g. after a job change or layoff?

Log in to the citizenship e-Service and select Update information within the case summary. Non-Singpass users log in with the submitted application reference ID. Upload the latest employment or termination evidence. If the particular or document is not available in Update information, ICA directs applicants to its enquiry form. Report the facts accurately; ICA does not publish a fixed positive or negative weight for a job change or layoff.

How do I correct wrongly entered details in a submitted application, and can errors cause rejection?

Use Update information in the case summary while the application is processing. If the field cannot be amended there, submit the correction through ICA's enquiry form and attach the official document showing the correct detail. ICA does not publish a rule that every clerical error causes rejection, but an unresolved inconsistency can prevent verification or lead to a clarification request. Correct it promptly and keep the acknowledgement.

Can I submit another PR application while one is still being processed?

No. ICA states that new or repeated PR applications for the same person or people will not be accepted while the current application is still in process. Update the existing case when circumstances change. If you no longer want that case assessed, decide whether to withdraw it, understanding that fees are non-refundable and a later application will be a fresh case under the rules then in force.

Do I need to tell ICA if I renew my passport while my PR application is pending?

Yes. Singpass users should open the e-Service through MyICA and select Update information in the case summary; non-Singpass users log in with the application reference ID and use the same function. Provide the new passport details and document as requested. Keep the old passport copy and the update acknowledgement because the submitted application may contain the previous passport number.

What do 'pending' and 'processing' statuses mean, and does a long wait signal anything?

They mean ICA has not issued the final outcome. ICA does not publish separate approval probabilities for portal labels, nor does it say that a long wait predicts approval or rejection. PR applications generally take about six months and citizenship up to 12 months when documents are complete, but complex cases can exceed those periods. Monitor the e-Service and email for a clarification request or outcome instead of interpreting the label.

Should I report a salary increase or promotion during processing, and does it affect the application?

Report current employment and salary information through Update information and upload the new employer letter, payslip or other document the portal accepts. ICA assesses economic contributions among several factors, but it does not publish a formula showing how much a raise or promotion changes an outcome. The practical value of the update is accuracy and a current record, not a guaranteed improvement in approval chances.

Will ICA ask for more documents after I submit, what kinds, and is a request a good or bad sign?

ICA may send a clarification notification through the e-Service requesting additional information or documents. The item can concern identity, family, employment, income, education or another fact that needs verification. Submit exactly what the notice requests by its deadline. ICA does not describe a clarification request as a positive or negative signal; it means the file is incomplete for the officer's present assessment.

Why did the ad-hoc document submission option disappear from my application page?

ICA does not publish a promise that an unrestricted upload button will remain available throughout processing. Use Update information for the listed changes. If the document or change is not available there, ICA directs applicants to submit an enquiry and attach the latest evidence. Do not force an unrelated upload category. Save a screenshot of the case page and the enquiry acknowledgement if a time-sensitive update cannot be filed in the portal.

Is there anything I can do while waiting for a PR or citizenship decision?

Keep your passport, pass and REP where applicable valid; monitor MyICA, email and spam folders; report material changes; and prepare to answer clarification requests. Maintain orderly records of employment, residence, tax, family and travel changes. There is no published action that guarantees faster processing or approval. Avoid duplicate applications and avoid sending unsupported material merely to make the file look active.

Review your documents and next steps

The initial profile assessment is free and carries no obligation to proceed. It reviews the application category, document gaps and preparation steps, with a recommendation to apply, complete specific preparation first, or check a different route. It does not predict approval.
