Singapore PR for South Korean Management Consultants
South Korean management consultants in Singapore typically hold an Employment Pass, and the role is not on MOM's Shortage Occupation List, so their EP rested on the core COMPASS criteria rather than an occupation bonus. For PR, the Korean side of the file usually comes from the Supreme Court-administered family register, where any name change requires Family Court permission. Consultants also tend to describe their work through client projects, which needs care when the evidence must point to your actual employer.
Government requirements are linked in the official sources below. Preparation suggestions are advisory guidance; individual decisions remain with the relevant authority.
A Korean name change leaves a court trail
Under Korea's family register law, a person who wants to change their name must obtain permission from the Family Court and report it within one month of receiving a certified copy of that permission. Corrections of errors in the register also go through the Family Court. If your passport name differs from the name on older degree certificates or early payslips from a Seoul office, the court permission and your updated certificate are the documents that connect the two. MOM also asks for an explanation letter with supporting documents where a candidate's name differs.
No SOL bonus, so the diversity score mattered
MOM's Shortage Occupation List covers roles such as data scientists, nurses and carbon specialists, but not management consultants. Your EP therefore had to reach the 40-point pass mark through the other COMPASS criteria. One of these, C3 diversity, awards 20 points if your nationality is under 5 per cent of the employer's PMETs and 10 points by default for firms with fewer than 25 PMETs. This is a work pass rule only; ICA publishes no equivalent.
Keep client names out, keep the employer in
Consultants often work at client sites under non-disclosure terms. Your PR file needs to show who employs you, your role, your salary and your dates, which an employer letter and payslips can do without naming clients. Where you were seconded from a Korean office to Singapore, make sure the Singapore employer named on your EP is the same entity that issues your employer letter and CPF records.
Korean certificates come in general and detailed versions
Korea issues separate family relation, marriage relation and identification certificates, and each comes as a general or a detailed version. The law asks people to request the general version where it is enough and to give reasons for a detailed one. A detailed marriage relation certificate adds past marriages and divorces. If your family profile in the PR application includes a previous marriage, the general version may not show it, so check which version actually reflects what you declare.
Relevant professional records
The current ICA checklist is the starting point. Additional examples should be relevant to your circumstances and permitted by your employer; do not disclose protected information.
- Employer confirmation of role, dates and employment arrangement
- Salary and tax records, with variable compensation explained
- Non-confidential descriptions of responsibilities and relevant assignments
Illustrative preparation example
A consultant should identify the legal employer even when assigned to a client. Use permitted high-level descriptions of assignments rather than confidential client materials.
Eligibility, assessment and preparation are different
ICA publishes broad factors including family ties to Singaporeans, economic contributions, qualifications, age, family profile and length of residency. We do not present a nationality-specific salary cutoff, waiting period, cohort ranking or approval probability as an ICA rule. Work-pass qualifying salaries and COMPASS are MOM requirements, separate from ICA PR assessment. Use accurate payslip and tax information rather than a supposed PR salary target.
Inconsistencies to resolve before submission
- Employment dates or employer identity that conflict across the form and records
- Salary figures that mix fixed pay and bonuses without explanation
- Qualifications, titles or registration status that are inaccurately described
- Optional evidence that exposes confidential or personal information
Preparation mistakes to avoid
- Treating a job title, salary or employer brand as a guaranteed approval signal
- Adding unverified claims about sector priority or unpublished ICA weights
- Submitting inconsistent records without resolving the discrepancy
- Following an arbitrary waiting period instead of checking the applicable route and current documents
Check before confirming the application
- Identity, qualification and employment details refer to the same person
- Names, dates, addresses and salary figures agree across the records
- Non-English records have translations accepted by ICA
- The applicants included meet the correct category and have reviewed their declarations
Common questions
Can a South Korean management consultant apply for Singapore PR?
Yes, if they meet an eligible ICA application category, such as holding an Employment Pass or S Pass. Nationality and the consulting profession do not in themselves establish eligibility, and ICA does not publish approval odds by nationality or occupation.
Link to answerDo I need an apostille on my Korean documents?
ICA's published requirement is certified copies with official translations for documents not in English. It does not mention apostilles. South Korea has been party to the Apostille Convention since 2007 and Singapore since 2021, so an apostille is available if another Singapore body asks for one. A Korean consulate or notary translation meets ICA's stated translation options.
Link to answerCan someone in Korea obtain my family certificates for me?
Under Korea's family register law, the person named in the register, their spouse and their lineal blood relatives may request certificates, and an agent may do so if delegated by one of them. A parent or sibling in Korea may therefore be able to help, subject to those rules. Request only the certificate you need, since the law expects detailed versions to be justified.
Link to answerReview your documents and next steps
The initial profile assessment is free and carries no obligation to proceed. It reviews the application category, document gaps and preparation steps, with a recommendation to apply, complete specific preparation first, or check a different route. It does not predict approval.
